Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced that the Gusau International Cargo Airport will commence operations within the next four months.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the ongoing project, the governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and assured residents that the airport would soon be ready for both passenger and cargo services.
According to Lawal, the airport project initially stalled due to funding and administrative delays — has received renewed attention and resources under his administration. “The project is critical to the economic growth of Zamfara. It will enhance commerce, attract investments, and open up opportunities for local and international trade,” he said.
The airport, when completed, is expected to feature a modern terminal, cargo handling facilities, and standard runways capable of accommodating large aircraft.
Lawal emphasized that his administration is committed to delivering critical infrastructure to uplift the state and create jobs. “We are working round the clock to ensure that in four months, this airport becomes fully functional,” he added.
The project, located along the Gusau–Kaduna highway, is seen as a strategic economic intervention for a state grappling with insecurity and developmental challenges.
