Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s “no limits” partnership with Russia during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, according to Chinese state media. The conversation marked the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
During the talks, Xi and Putin underscored the strength and long-term nature of their alliance, emphasizing that it is driven by internal factors and remains unaffected by external influences.
“China-Russia relations have strong internal driving force and unique strategic value, and are not aimed at, nor are they influenced by, any third party,” Xi stated.
The discussion came as former U.S. President Donald Trump pushes for a swift resolution to the Ukraine war, raising speculation that Washington could attempt to create divisions between Beijing and Moscow while focusing on competition with China.
Trump recently caused concern among European allies by holding talks with Russia without involving Ukraine, and by attributing blame to Ukraine for Moscow’s 2022 invasion.
This marks the second phone call between Xi and Putin this year, following a discussion in January where they explored how to navigate ties under a potential Trump administration.
