WIC to Launch Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank at 2025 Convention in Boston
The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has announced the launch of the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank at its 2025 convention scheduled to hold from August 29 to 31 at the Marriott Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.
According to a statement signed by WIC Chairman Dr. Festus Okere and made available to SaharaReporters, the bank is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming Igbo-owned businesses in the diaspora and supporting the economic development of the southeast region of Nigeria.
Reviving the Igbo Economic Legacy
Dr. Okere said the new credit union bank is inspired by the historic Igbo apprenticeship system, which played a vital role in rebuilding the southeastern economy after the Nigeria-Biafra civil war.
“This year marks the launch of the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank, which aims to transform Igbo businesses in the diaspora and contribute to the development of our homeland,” Okere stated.
“This initiative presents an opportunity to replicate the Igbo apprenticeship scheme that revitalised our region post-war. The bank project will usher in a new era of prosperity for our people.”
High-Profile Attendance Expected
The 2025 WIC convention is expected to attract one of the largest gatherings in its history, fueled by ongoing socio-political issues both at home and abroad. Notable attendees will include:
Chief Gaius Chibueze (E-Money)
Chairman of Faith Toyota
A representative of the Boston city government
Chief Valentine Igbobi, PCNI Chairman and the Ochiagha of Ndiigbo in New England 2025
Chief Igbobi has also authorized full participation from the People’s Club of Nigeria (Boston branch), while the Umuada Igbo group is expected to attend in large numbers.
Strict Vetting for Nigerian Politicians
WIC Vice Chairman Hon. Basil Onwukwe emphasized that only Nigerian public office holders with proven integrity will be invited to the convention.
“These individuals will undergo a thorough vetting process to ensure they are truly committed to protecting the lives and properties of Igbo people,” he said.
The World Igbo Congress Convention 2025, which serves as the premier gathering for Igbos in the diaspora, is seen as a pivotal moment to foster unity, promote investment, and chart a new course for sustainable development.
