Seun Kuti Claims Wizkid Copied His ‘Big Bird’ Nickname
Nigerian Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has accused superstar Wizkid of stealing his iconic nickname “Big Bird.” The accusation came during a recent livestream after a fan of Wizkid urged Seun Kuti to change his moniker because Wizkid reportedly goes by “Biggest Bird.”
Seun Kuti firmly rejected the suggestion, stressing that he has used the nickname long before Wizkid.
“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name? Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it. I am not dragging it with anybody, please,” he said during the livestream.
Fans React to the Name Dispute
The livestream quickly went viral, sparking a heated debate on social media. Supporters of both artists weighed in, with some defending Seun Kuti’s claim as a matter of legacy and originality, while Wizkid’s fans highlighted his global influence in contemporary Afrobeat.
This isn’t the first time Seun Kuti has responded to comparisons with Wizkid or discussions about his father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. The musician has often expressed that such comparisons are disrespectful to his family legacy.
Fans have flooded social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook with reactions, memes, and clips from the livestream, showing that the debate is far from over.
