Government Focusing on High-Impact Projects in Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that while the Bola Tinubu administration cannot address every challenge facing Abuja, it is committed to implementing projects that significantly improve residents’ quality of life.
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike admitted that no government can solve all problems, even over decades in office.
“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” Wike stated.
“But government is solving problems that at least will help to improve the lives of people.”
Why Not Every Project Is Commissioned
Responding to concerns about the absence of formal commissioning for certain projects, Wike explained that the FCT Administration prioritises visibility and scale when deciding which projects to showcase.
“It’s not possible for us to commission every project.
We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects, ones where billions of naira have been spent, and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?” he said.
According to Wike, this approach allows the administration to focus on big-ticket infrastructure and development projects that have substantial impact.
Media Urged to Visit Project Sites
Wike called on the media to work with the administration by visiting project sites alongside relevant Mandate Secretaries to see ongoing progress in sectors such as education, social development, and infrastructure.
“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance,” he said.
