The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hinted at the possibility of withdrawing his support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the forthcoming Area Council elections in Abuja.
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike criticized the party’s lack of preparedness for the 2027 general elections, attributing it to internal strife, impunity, and what he described as a lack of genuine commitment to opposition politics.
“The PDP is not ready for 2027. There’s too much internal crisis and no real effort to strengthen the opposition,” Wike said.
He also dismissed the influence of the PDP Governors’ Forum, describing it as a mere pressure group rather than a functional organ of the party.
“For you to lead the opposition, it’s not by mouth. You have to make sacrifices,” the Minister stressed.
Wike warned that the party’s unresolved internal issues could prompt him to withhold his support in the upcoming Area Council elections in the FCT.
“If the PDP does not keep their house in order, I will not support them for the Area Council election,” he declared.
