APC Rejects Impeachment Proceedings Against Gov. Fubara
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has strongly rejected the impeachment proceedings initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, describing the move as untenable and potentially destabilising.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the APC emphasized that while the legislature has constitutional oversight powers, resorting to impeachment over the current disputes mainly budgetary issues — is unjustified and harmful to governance stability.
APC’s Position and Key Arguments
The party noted that a budget transmitted by President Bola Tinubu during a period of emergency rule in the state was approved by the National Assembly and is meant to run until August 2026, meaning the governor was not constitutionally obliged to present a supplementary budget.

APC warned that the impeachment threat appears rooted in internal Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conflicts, rather than genuine constitutional concerns, and could damage the state’s political stability and the party’s image if allowed to proceed.
The party urged APC lawmakers in the State House of Assembly to resist external pressures and immediately discontinue the impeachment process to safeguard the state’s progress.
The APC concluded by urging all stakeholders to respect democratic principles, prioritise good governance, and avoid actions that could escalate political tensions in Rivers State.
