APC’s Eze Blasts Tinubu Over Alleged Marginalization of VP Shettima
Claims Shettima Has Been Relegated to Ceremonial Duties
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the alleged sidelining of Vice President Kashim Shettima by the Bola Tinubu administration.
In a strongly worded statement, Eze described the treatment of Shettima as “sad, unfortunate, and unacceptable,” claiming the Vice President has been reduced to attending wedding and burial ceremonies instead of performing core constitutional functions.
“Such a highly respected politician has been turned into a mere agent of government for social functions. This is sad, unfortunate, and unacceptable,” Eze stated.
President Tinubu Accused of Ignoring Constitutional Mandate
Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), also questioned why President Tinubu has allegedly refused to hand over power to Vice President Shettima whenever he travels abroad.
He emphasized that the Vice Presidency is not a symbolic role but an exalted constitutional office that must be respected.
“For the two years that Shettima has served as Vice President, and despite the President’s frequent travels abroad, he has never been handed power. This is not only condemnable but also violates the spirit and letter of the Constitution,” Eze warned.
Concerns Over Political Expediency
Although Eze noted he is not a personal supporter of Shettima, he maintained that the Vice President deserves to be treated with dignity in line with the responsibilities of his office.
“He may not have the courage to voice out his frustration, but it is clear that political expediency is being placed above constitutional order,” he added.
