U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reiterated the Trump administration’s firm stance on immigration, stating that some green card holders and foreign students could face deportation if deemed not in the national interest.
In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Vance emphasized that holding a green card does not guarantee permanent residency and warned that deportation rates will increase as the administration intensifies efforts to remove illegal migrants.
“A green card holder doesn’t have an indefinite right to be in the United States,” Vance stated. He stressed that decisions on deportation are not solely about free speech or national security but also about who the American public chooses to include in its national community. “If the secretary of state and the president decide this person shouldn’t be in America, and they have no legal right to stay here, it’s as simple as that,” he added.
Vance also suggested that foreign students on visas could be expelled if deemed a threat to U.S. interests. “I think we’ll certainly see some people who get deported on student visas if we determine that it’s not in the best interest of the United States to have them in our country,” he said.
Additionally, he criticized the high number of foreign students at prestigious U.S. universities, arguing that they occupy spots that could have gone to American students. “Many of these foreign students pay full tuition, and what happens at elite universities like Columbia or Harvard is that a well-qualified middle-class American student from the heartland misses out because a Chinese oligarch paying $100,000 a year takes that spot,” Vance claimed.
His remarks underscore the administration’s broader efforts to tighten immigration policies and prioritize American interests in higher education and residency decisions.
