Victor Osimhen Credits Christ Embassy for Changing His Life
Nigerian international football star, Victor Osimhen, has shared a heartfelt testimony about how Christ Embassy Church, under the leadership of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, played a pivotal role in his life during a period of financial hardship.
“I Can’t Relate to Those Who Say the Church Doesn’t Help”
Speaking candidly, Osimhen recounted how he was forced to pause his football career for two years after secondary school due to family struggles. Being the youngest child, he felt a responsibility to contribute and support his home.
“Many Nigerians and Africans say the church doesn’t help, but I can’t relate because of what Christ Embassy and Pastor Chris did for me,” Osimhen said.
Working with Christ Embassy Provided More Than Just a Job
Osimhen revealed that he joined a group of about 15 youths from his neighborhood who were employed by the church to distribute Rhapsody of Realities devotionals. According to him, the pay was substantial for that time, and the experience was enriching.
“We were paid good money. I met new people, made friends, and the work brought in good money at the time,” he added.
Beyond financial compensation, the support was holistic spiritually and physically.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Support: Food, Prayers, and Shelter
Osimhen described Pastor Chris as a kind-hearted leader who went the extra mile to care for the team. He recounted how the church provided meals, shelter, and personal prayers.
“Pastor Chris is a kind-hearted man. He prayed for us, fed us, and provided housing. I lived in the church for about five months, only returning home on weekends to see my family.”
This foundational support, he said, made a lasting impression and cemented his loyalty to the church even today.
Churches Are Doing Good Work, Even If the Media Overlooks It
Victor Osimhen emphasized that many churches in Nigeria are actively contributing to development through various social projects, even though their efforts are rarely highlighted in the media.
“We have so many schools and hospitals built by churches. We have community water projects built by churches and so much more.”
He added that Christ Embassy continues to support communities and that he personally donates financially to support their ongoing work.
A Call to Recognize the Good in Nigerian Churches
Osimhen’s story is a powerful reminder that, despite criticisms, many churches in Nigeria are making real, measurable impacts in the lives of ordinary people.
“We should learn to appreciate the good ones too,” he urged.
