Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has said that the Labour Party (LP) is not what many Nigerians believe it to be.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ozigbo described LP as being in decline, predicting that mass defections from the party are on the horizon.
“Labour Party is not exactly what people think it is,” he said. “It’s almost in its dying days, and over time, people are going to see this – how people are leaving the party.”
Ozigbo, who recently defected from LP to APC, claimed that most elected officials under the Labour Party do not intend to seek re-election on the same platform.
“There is hardly any elected member of the party that I have spoken to that is intending to run under the same platform,” he added. “Labour Party, for me, is in the past.”
On his move to the APC, Ozigbo stated that he joined not out of blind loyalty but to help effect change from within.
“I’m not here to justify all the actions of APC. I’m here as a catalyst for change,” he said. “If this is the only option we have today, then good people need to go in and become agents of change—and I see myself as one of them.”
The former LP chieftain also responded to suggestions that he joined the APC without grassroots backing.
“It’s laughable to say I joined without supporters. Since I moved, I’ve added value to APC. Nicholas moved to APC a month before me, and nobody talked about it. But when I moved, it became a trending topic.”
Ozigbo also took a swipe at Anambra Governor Charles Soludo, accusing him of playing both sides.
“Soludo must have told some people that APC is weak and his real problem is Labour,” Ozigbo alleged. “So he positions himself as APGA in the day and APC at night. That’s confusing and weakens the party.”
He concluded by urging politicians to take a clear stand.
“If you want to be a man, be a man. If you want to be a woman, be a woman. If Soludo wants to be APGA, be APGA. APGA is in the past.”
