NICN Bars NARD Strike in Abuja
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja has issued an order restraining the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and its members from going on the strike they initially planned for January 12, 2026.
This ruling comes as an update to earlier reports about the planned industrial action. Justice Emmanuel Subilim handed down the order on Friday following an ex-parte motion filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). The case is registered as NICN/ABJ/06/2026.
Federal Government Moves to Restrain Strike
During proceedings, Mrs. Maimuna Lami Shiru, Director of Civil Litigation at the Federal Ministry of Justice, led a team of government lawyers in presenting the motion. The motion aimed to prevent NARD from striking while the substantive suit continues.

Court’s Decision
