LAGOS – A woman, yet to be identified, was recovered dead after plunging into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.

Despite their rescue efforts, medical personnel from UNILAG confirmed her death upon arrival. The reason behind the incident remains unclear, though bystanders suspect it may have been a suicide.
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the woman’s body has been moved to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
“Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront. She was recovered by marine police officers but was later pronounced dead by UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division,” Hundeyin said.
