Ukraine has received a $970 million installment from the United Kingdom as part of the G7 loan backed by frozen Russian assets, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on X on Friday.
Shmyhal stated that the funds would be used to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing war with Russia.
“I am grateful to (British Prime Minister) Keir Starmer, the U.K. government, and our G7 partners for the mechanism to make Russian money work for Ukraine,” he said.
The UK had previously committed to providing Ukraine with a $2.9 billion loan in three equal installments under the G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration scheme, which totals $50 billion.
