UK Returnee Dies in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash En Route Abeokuta Wedding

A woman who recently returned from the United Kingdom has died in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while travelling to attend a wedding in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. on Monday near the Christopher University axis of the expressway, according to a statement by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi.

Akinbiyi said the victim was travelling in a white Toyota Camry alongside two others when the vehicle rammed into a moving truck.

He explained that the impact of the collision led to the death of the female passenger, while the two other occupants a male and another female sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Camry drove at excessive speed and rammed into a moving truck,” he said, noting that three people were involved in the crash.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and one of the injured female passengers had just returned from the United Kingdom and were en route from Lagos to Abeokuta for a wedding ceremony at the time of the incident.

The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the Redeemed Hospital morgue.

The agency commiserated with the families of the victims and cautioned motorists against excessive speeding, stressing its dangerous consequences.

The accident occurred barely three months after Anthony Joshua and an associate were involved in a similar crash along the same section of the expressway.
