At least 14 people, including a child, have lost their lives due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall across parts of the U.S.
Kentucky has been the hardest hit, with 12 confirmed fatalities. Two additional deaths have been reported—one in Georgia and another in West Virginia.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear shared the tragic update on X Monday, stating, “The death toll in Kentucky has now risen to 12. We must remember, this isn’t just a number—these are Kentuckians who will be missed by their families and loved ones.” The toll in the state had previously been reported as eight, including a 7-year-old child, on Sunday.
Georgia also reported one fatality, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which cited local authorities. Meanwhile, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey confirmed one death in his state during a news briefing Monday, adding that several people remained missing amid “significant levels of flooding.”
The heavy rainfall, which began on Saturday, has impacted multiple states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Virginia, and West Virginia, causing widespread devastation.
