Trump Blocks Israeli Plan to Assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Amid Rising Tensions
Trump Reportedly Rejects Israeli Proposal Targeting Khamenei
United States President Donald Trump has reportedly vetoed a secret proposal by the Israeli government to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the midst of escalating conflict between the two regional adversaries.
According to a Reuters report citing two American officials familiar with the situation, the U.S. president dismissed the plan, warning that such an action would be premature and risk igniting an uncontrollable regional war.
“No American Has Been Killed Yet,” Trump Reportedly Says
The unnamed officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Trump explicitly instructed the Israeli government to refrain from targeting Iran’s top political leadership, noting that Iran has not yet killed any American citizens.
“Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership,” one senior U.S. administration official reportedly told Reuters.
Trump’s position underscores the cautious approach the U.S. is taking even as its closest Middle Eastern ally ramps up its offensive against Iran.
Israel and Iran Trade Missiles for Third Consecutive Day
Meanwhile, missile strikes between Israel and Iran entered a third consecutive day on Sunday. The Israeli government maintains that the operations are aimed at dismantling what it believes to be Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure.
Tensions between the two nations have reached boiling point, sparking international concern over the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
Despite the aggressive military exchange, the U.S. appears intent on preventing direct attacks on Iran’s political leadership, suggesting a desire to limit the conflict’s scope.
