Troops intercept alleged Boko Haram drug supplier in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, over her alleged role in supplying drugs to Boko Haram terrorists operating in parts of Borno State.
The suspect was arrested in Askira Uba Local Government Area following intelligence-led operations by the Joint Task Force (North-East), according to the Nigerian Army.
Army confirms arrest, recovery of cannabis
The Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt-Col Sanni Uba, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said the operation was carried out on January 23, 2026, under Operation Desert Sanity V, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist logistics and criminal support networks in the North-East.
According to the statement, Abulazeez is alleged to be a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya communities.
Drugs traced to Taraba supply route
Preliminary investigations, the Army said, indicated that the suspect sourced the illicit drugs from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State before transporting them through established supply routes for onward distribution.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilogrammes.
The Army described the seizure as a significant interception aimed at disrupting supplies intended to sustain illicit activities within the theatre of operations.
Investigation ongoing, Army assures sustained pressure
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider trafficking and distribution network.
Lt-Col Uba said the operation underscored the importance of denying criminal and terrorist groups access to supply chains that fuel violence and instability in the region.
He added that troops remain committed to sustained, intelligence-driven operations to deny criminal networks the space and resources needed to operate, until lasting peace and stability are achieved in the North-East.
