The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun has confirmed that four people lost their lives, while nine others sustained injuries in a lone accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
In a statement on Monday, FRSC spokesperson Mrs. Florence Okpe reported that the crash occurred at 8:30 p.m. due to speeding and a tyre burst, which resulted in a loss of control.
“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and a tyre burst, leading to a loss of control. The vehicle, with registration number FKJ 570 YE, crashed,” she stated.
Okpe revealed that 13 passengers were involved in the accident five men and eight women. Among them, two men and two women lost their lives, while three men and six women sustained injuries.
She added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere, while the deceased were deposited at FOS morgue in Ipara.
Meanwhile, Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin urged motorists to remain focused while driving and regularly inspect their vehicles for potential defects.
He also emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits assigned to different vehicle categories and encouraged fleet operators to install speed-limiting devices to enhance road safety.
