Nigerian Mother of Three Dies Abroad Days After Surgery
Tragedy has struck a Nigerian family as Damilola Balogun, a mother of three, passed away in the United Kingdom just days after undergoing brain surgery.
Health Complications and Hospital Visits
Damilola first experienced severe migraines and sought medical help at Walsall Manor Hospital, where she was treated and discharged. Three days later, she returned with persistent headaches, but doctors could not identify a cause, and she was sent home again.
Two weeks later, her condition worsened, prompting hospital admission. She underwent antibiotic treatment, an MRI scan, and a lumbar puncture, which revealed fluid on her brain — a serious condition requiring urgent intervention.
Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Following the diagnosis, Damilola was referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for emergency surgery. The operation was initially reported as successful, giving her family hope.
Tragically, three days after the procedure, Damilola went into a coma and was placed on life support. Despite the best medical efforts and prayers from family and the Nigerian community abroad, doctors confirmed she could not recover. She passed away on the morning of 1st January 2026, when life support was withdrawn.
Family and Community Mourn
Damilola is survived by her husband, her three children (aged 11, 10, and five months), her mother, and her grandmother. The news of her death has sent shockwaves through both her family and the Nigerian community in the UK, with many taking to social media to mourn her passing and offer support.
