Toke Makinwa Gets Real: If I Had Remarried, I’d Be Divorced Again

Popular actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has made a bold revelation about her love life, admitting that if she had remarried after her divorce, she would have ended up divorced again.

Speaking on the latest episode of her Toke Moments podcast, titled I Am Growing Up, Not Old, the media star reflected on turning 40 and how she has come to terms with being single and childless—something that once terrified her.

“Regret is exhausting. Get comfortable with your truth,” she shared. “The hardest thing for me to say was, ‘I’m 40, single, and childless.’ But I said it, and I didn’t die.”

Makinwa acknowledged that had she rushed into another marriage, she would have likely repeated past mistakes. “If I had gotten married again, I would be divorced again because the lessons never stop,” she admitted.

Instead of dwelling on societal pressures, she now embraces her reality. “I could look at it like ‘Oh my God, I’m 40 with no child, no husband—people have passed me.’ Or I can see it as ‘I’m 40, I’m a boss, I’ve built an empire, I’m one of the most influential voices in Africa.’ Life is all about perspective.”

She emphasized the power of self-acceptance: “Sometimes, you need to sit with your truth. Once you do, no one can shame you. What I desire, desires me too. This is just where I am right now.”

Toke Makinwa was previously married to businessman Maje Ayida, but their union ended in 2017. In late 2024, rumors swirled that she had secretly wed longtime friend Farouk Umar, but she quickly shut down the speculation, clarifying that they are just “besties” and that the supposed wedding was actually a Thanksgiving event.

At 40, Toke Makinwa is focused on her career, happiness, and personal growth—on her own terms.
