Tinubu: The Niger Delta Loses Edwin Clark, a Tireless Advocate for Resource Control and Environmental Justice

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, the former federal Commissioner of Information and a revered leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).In a brief presidential statement, it was noted that Chief Clark, who was 97 years old, was born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, recalled that Chief Clark led a remarkable life of service—having held various roles including that of a councillor and positions within both state and federal cabinets. His enduring commitment to his community and nation was also evident in his passionate advocacy for resource control, economic fairness, and environmental justice in the Niger Delta.On behalf of the federal government, President Tinubu extended his condolences to Chief Clark’s family, the Ijaw nation, the people of the Niger Delta, and the Delta State government, describing his loss as deeply saddening.Tinubu highlighted that the late statesman was a towering figure whose influence resonated across Nigeria’s political sphere for nearly six decades. He praised Chief Clark as a courageous leader who consistently championed his beliefs, never hesitating to stand alone against injustice.“Chief Clark was a voice for both the Niger Delta and our nation. His contributions to national issues were distinct and patriotic. A lawyer and educator by profession, he remained a steadfast advocate for a united Nigeria, continuously reaching out to people from all corners of the country to promote unity built on justice and equity. His words carried immense weight, earning the respect of both supporters and adversaries alike.
