Tinubu Appoints General Christopher Musa as New Defence Minister
President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. The announcement was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, officially naming Musa as the replacement for Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on Monday due to health challenges.
The President expressed confidence in Musa’s “capacity to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture and lead ongoing security reforms across the country.”
The nomination was also confirmed in a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Why Badaru Resigned as Defence Minister
Badaru’s resignation comes amid increasing national security concerns. According to the Presidency, the former minister stepped down on health grounds, creating an urgent need for a capable and experienced replacement to steer the ministry.
