President Bola Tinubu met with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and other lawmakers on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, saw Obasa arriving separately at around 2:50 p.m., while his colleagues, who came in two coaster buses, were ushered in through a different route.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, sources suggest it was related to the recent leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Obasa was impeached by some lawmakers but was reinstated on March 3, 2025, after interventions from political stakeholders, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Lagos State Governing Advisory Council (GAC).
Upon exiting the meeting at about 4:30 p.m., the lawmakers were heard chanting, “On your mandate, we shall stand,” a slogan affirming their support for the President. Their chorus echoed through the Villa’s forecourt for several minutes as they boarded their buses.
Despite efforts by journalists to get details of the discussions, Obasa declined to comment. House of Representatives member Rt. Hon. James Faleke, who also attended the meeting, simply stated, “It went well.”
Unconfirmed reports suggest that some lawmakers may have apologized to Obasa over his recent impeachment.
