Tinubu begins state visit to Türkiye
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, the Presidency has announced.
The visit is aimed at strengthening the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while opening new areas of cooperation across key sectors.
Presidency outlines objectives of the visit
The disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to him, President Tinubu’s visit will focus on deepening collaboration in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
Talks to build on Erdoğan’s 2021 visit
The trip follows the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Nigeria in October 2021.
During the visit, both countries are expected to hold strategic political and diplomatic engagements, with discussions centred on finance, communication, trade, and investment.
MoUs, business forum scheduled
The agenda includes high-level meetings between officials of both nations, as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol matters.
A business forum will also be held, bringing together investors from Nigeria and Türkiye to explore opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
Ministers, security chiefs to accompany president
Members of President Tinubu’s entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Other officials on the trip are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
