A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has postponed the case involving retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and Rivers State traditional leader, Eze Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu, to March 20, 2025. The adjournment is for a report on the progress of the settlement process.
Amadi-Worenwu is facing a one-count charge related to cybercrime. The charge alleges that, on March 28, 2023, he sent a threatening and harassing message to one Sunday Gift-Chinenem, which caused retired Justice Enebeli to fear for his life.
According to the charge, Amadi-Worenwu threatened to harm the retired judge, stating that he knew where Enebeli’s son worked, and that Enebeli would not live to enjoy his retirement. He further allegedly vowed to kill Justice Enebeli in retaliation for a ruling delivered against him in a chieftaincy dispute involving Christopher Wonodi and others on March 20, 2023.
The offense is said to contravene Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
Initially remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre, Amadi-Worenwu was later granted bail after pleading not guilty.
At the most recent hearing, both the prosecution and defense counsels informed the court that they had not yet finalized settlement terms and requested more time. Presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele, cautioned that if no agreement is reached by the next hearing, the trial would proceed.
The case has been adjourned to March 20, 2025.
