A Nigerian national in Thailand, Ukoma Jefta Nuzbech, has been re-arrested by Thai authorities for allegedly evading a court trial linked to a drug trafficking case in the Koh Pha Ngan area.
According to reports by Thailand News, Nuzbech was apprehended on January 14, 2026, following intelligence on his whereabouts.
Background of the case
Nuzbech was initially arrested in March 2025 for allegedly selling 25.71 grams of cocaine to an undercover officer. He was later granted bail but reportedly failed to appear in court, prompting authorities to declare him wanted. Investigators alleged that he went into hiding and continued engaging in drug-related activities across Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan.
Arrest details
Police intercepted a white Mitsubishi Mirage in which Nuzbech was travelling. He allegedly resisted arrest, prompting officers to force their way into the vehicle. A search reportedly led to the recovery of:
1.18 grams of suspected cocaine
50,280 baht in cash
A mobile phone containing messages linked to drug transactions
Authorities said information from the phone suggested connections to a 29-year-old Thai woman, whose bank account QR code was allegedly used to process payments for drug deals.
Charges and ongoing investigations
Thai authorities confirmed that Nuzbech faces charges of possession with intent to distribute, an offence punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to one million baht if convicted. Investigations have also been widened to identify other members of the suspected drug network and determine the extent of its operations.
