Speed Darlington Mocks Super Eagles’ AFCON Exit After Penalty Loss to Morocco

Speed Darlington reacts to Super Eagles’ AFCON semifinal defeat

Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has sparked reactions online after mocking the Super Eagles’ exit from the Africa Cup of Nations following their semifinal loss to Morocco.

The Super Eagles crashed out of the tournament on Wednesday after losing 4–2 on penalties to the host nation, missing out on a place in the AFCON final.

Goalless draw ends Nigeria’s title hopes

The semifinal encounter ended 0–0 after regulation time and extra time, forcing a penalty shootout that Morocco won.

Nigeria were targeting a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title, but their hopes were dashed after Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyeamachi missed their penalties.

Singer links AFCON loss to political criticism

Reacting on X, Speed Darlington appeared pleased with the Super Eagles’ elimination, using the outcome to criticise the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“Thank God APC can’t add AFCON to their list of achievements to hide their years of failure. AFCON bye bye,” he wrote.

Super Eagles shift focus to third-place match

Despite the defeat, the Super Eagles will still compete in the third-place playoff, where they are scheduled to face Egypt in a bid to secure the bronze medal.
