Sokoto State Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu has launched an initiative to distribute maize and cash assistance to key religious leaders and organizations across the state as part of the preparations for Ramadan.
The program aims to ease challenges during the holy month while affirming support for the Ulamas who guide communities in Islamic teachings.
According to the governor, each Jum’at Imam will receive five bags of maize along with N100,000 in cash. Additionally, Na’ibs are set to receive three bags of maize and N50,000, while Mu’adhins will be provided with two bags of maize and N50,000. The support is designed to help the beneficiaries and their families focus on their religious responsibilities.
In recognition of their spiritual contributions, 300 senior Islamic scholars will each receive N200,000, with another 100 scholars granted N100,000 each. To further empower grassroots religious activities, 10 Malaman Zaure from every ward in the state’s 23 local government areas have been selected to receive N50,000 each.
Moreover, 150 Islamic organizations that promote the Islamic faith, values, and unity will receive cash assistance of N300,000 apiece. Governor Aliyu emphasized that these initiatives are part of his campaign promises and his 9-point smart innovative agenda, which prioritizes public welfare, the development of religious institutions, and the promotion of peace and prosperity in Sokoto State.
