Several high-profile Nigerians, including former Senator Shehu Sani and ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri, have reportedly been nominated for ambassadorial appointments by the federal government.

Also on the list are former Abia and Enugu State Governors, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; GTBank founder Fola Adeola; former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro; and ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

The nominees are currently undergoing security screening by the Department of State Services (DSS). According to sources familiar with the process, the final list of cleared individuals will be made public once vetting is complete.

One of the nominees, who confirmed their selection under the condition of anonymity, indicated that the list could be released before the end of the month.

This move follows the recall of Nigeria’s ambassadors from their foreign postings last year, leaving many diplomatic offices unfilled.

Presidency insiders say the nomination process is being handled with caution, as both career and political ambassadors are being considered. Once the security clearance process is concluded, the list is expected to be sent to the National Assembly for confirmation.
