Senator David Jimkuta (APC), representing Taraba South Senatorial District, has revealed that 19 senators were denied landing permits at Kashimbilla Airport in Taraba State.
Speaking at his Senatorial Empowerment Programme in Wukari, Taraba, where he distributed various items to his constituents, Jimkuta expressed disappointment over the incident. He explained that the 19 senators had been selected by the Senate to accompany him and witness the empowerment event.
According to the senator, after completing all necessary procedures to fly into Kashimbilla Airport, he was informed that the facility had been temporarily shut down, preventing his colleagues from attending the occasion.
Jimkuta, who chairs the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils, noted that the visit would have helped the senators assess the region’s needs and offer necessary support.
Despite the setback, he urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to utilize the equipment given to them rather than sell them. Additionally, he pledged to enhance security in the district by providing logistics support.
Earlier, Chief David Kente, who chaired the event, commended the senator for the large-scale distribution of items, describing it as unprecedented in the district’s history.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed included cars, motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, deep freezers, and vulcanizing machines, among others.
