Governors pledge backing for Nigerian Armed Forces
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that sustained support and capacity-building for the Nigerian military will lead to the defeat of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.
Fubara, speaking in Port Harcourt during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritising modern equipment, personnel welfare, and operational readiness within the armed forces.
“We commend our President for equipping the armed forces with modern weapons and for motivating them through improved remuneration and welfare packages,” Fubara said.
He added that Rivers State would continue to support the federal government and security agencies to maintain peace and stability across the country.
Enugu Governor stresses unity and support for military families
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, reiterated his administration’s commitment to partnering with the federal government in supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, fallen heroes, and their families.
Speaking at the 2026 Remembrance Day and Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Okpara Square, Enugu, Mbah highlighted the importance of learning from past divisions to strengthen national unity and security.
“Peace and safety must be protected by restraint, dialogue, and shared responsibility,” he said, reaffirming the state’s practical support for military personnel beyond ceremonial recognition.
Cross River government affirms commitment to veterans and widows
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, through his deputy, Dr Peter Odey, confirmed the state’s focus on military welfare during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration in Calabar.
Odey described the event as a reminder of the sacrifices made by troops to preserve Nigeria’s unity. He noted that the state government includes widows and families of fallen soldiers in targeted welfare programmes and interventions.
Bayelsa Governor urges private sector support for armed forces
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, called on corporate organisations and private individuals to contribute to improving the conditions of service for military personnel. He paid tribute to serving, retired, and fallen soldiers for their role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“The celebration should serve as a renewed act of solidarity and gratitude to the heroes who made sacrifices to protect and unify Nigeria,” Diri said.
