Hundreds of residents in Plateau State took to the streets on Monday morning in defiance of a government-imposed curfew, protesting a deadly Palm Sunday attack that claimed multiple lives in Jos North Local Government Area.
The demonstration began at Anguwan Rukuba, the reported scene of the killings, where visibly distressed residents gathered as early as 9:00 a.m. to demand urgent action from authorities.
Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds chanting and expressing frustration over persistent insecurity in the area, as protesters called for stronger government intervention.
Eyewitness footage indicated that demonstrators were deeply agitated, insisting that the curfew imposed by the state government was insufficient to address the recurring violence affecting parts of Plateau State.
Many participants called for more decisive and long-term measures to prevent further attacks and improve community safety.
The incident follows a fresh wave of violence that has heightened tensions in Jos North, an area that has experienced repeated unrest in recent years.
Residents have consistently raised concerns over security lapses and what they describe as slow or inadequate responses to previous attacks.
Amid the unrest, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang was reported to have arrived at the protest scene.
His presence appeared aimed at addressing the concerns of demonstrators and calming the situation, although it was not immediately clear whether tensions eased following his visit.
The protest underscores growing public frustration over the government’s handling of security challenges in the state.
Demonstrators maintained that while curfews may offer temporary control, they do little to address the root causes of violence or deliver justice for victims.
