Former presidential aide and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has advised former presidential candidate Peter Obi to confine his divisive commentary to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and stop reacting negatively to national developments in Nigeria.
Omokri’s comments came in response to Obi’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu over the recent collapse of the national power grid. Obi had urged Tinubu to remain in Nigeria to address challenges in the electricity sector instead of going on foreign trips.
Reacting on Facebook, Omokri reminded Obi that major power outages are a global phenomenon, citing the United States, where blackouts have left tens of millions without electricity.
“As you read this, the United States is experiencing blackouts across multiple states as its power grid nears collapse,” Omokri wrote. “These things happen in every country on Earth. It is not limited to Nigeria.”
Omokri also questioned Obi’s record as Governor of Anambra State, noting that he did not establish any Independent Power Projects during his eight-year tenure, unlike Tinubu in Lagos. He further highlighted Nigeria’s recent achievements under Tinubu, including a peak power generation of 5,801.84MW and a daily energy output of 128,370.75 megawatt-hours—the highest in the nation’s electricity history.
“Peter Obi is advised to get a life instead of sitting around waiting for bad news to happen and amplifying it,” Omokri added.
He also referenced Obi’s influence within the ADC, saying it disrupted the party’s cohesion. “Mr Obi should limit his divisive nature to the African Democratic Congress, whose spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, recently complained about his polarising influence on that previously stable party.”
