Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Darchiev as the country’s new ambassador to the United States.
The announcement was made on Thursday through an official statement on the Kremlin’s website.
“Appoint Alexander Nikitovich Darchiev as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and the Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington,” the statement read.
Darchiev has been part of Russia’s diplomatic service since 1992. He previously held various roles at the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.
From 2014 to 2021, he served as Russia’s ambassador to Canada before assuming the role of director of the North Atlantic Department.
