The Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in Niger State, Mrs. Rosina Ebenezer Shauwulu Danmamman, has called on stakeholders to join forces in tackling gender-based violence against women.
Speaking at the POWA Niger State chapter’s 2025 International Women’s Day celebration in Minna, themed #AccelerateAction, Mrs. Danmamman stressed the need for proactive measures to uphold women’s rights and empowerment.
She highlighted the importance of ensuring that women are no longer sidelined but are given opportunities to take up leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
“Gone are the days when women were confined to the kitchen,” she asserted, urging women to aspire for greater achievements. She cited Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, as an example of a woman who has excelled on the global stage, encouraging others to draw inspiration from such figures.
As part of the event, POWA hosted 48 students from the Police Secondary School, Minna, for a lecture on menstrual hygiene delivered by Dr. Valda Martins. The session emphasized the importance of proper hygiene during menstruation to prevent infections.
Students, including Miriam Manasseh and Hassan Maryam, expressed gratitude to the POWA Chairperson for organizing the educational session, which provided valuable insights on menstrual health.
The event’s highlight was the distribution of sanitary pads to all 48 students by Mrs. Danmamman, reinforcing POWA’s commitment to supporting young girls’ health and well-being.
