The Ekiti State Police Command has uncovered a suspected illegal baby factory in Ikere-Ekiti, rescuing six children and arresting five suspects linked to the operation.
The discovery followed a tip-off that led police operatives to a building behind a hotel along the Ise-Ekiti Road in Ikere-Ekiti.
The rescued children, aged between two and nine years, were taken into protective custody for care and further assessment.
Items recovered from the premises included baby delivery materials and other medical supplies believed to have been used in the operation.
Police sources identified the prime suspect as a 43-year-old woman, who allegedly coordinated activities at the premises. She denied running a baby factory, claiming the building was used for religious activities.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full nature of the operation and to establish whether the children were victims of trafficking or illegal adoption practices.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Ekiti State Police Command said it remains committed to tackling child exploitation, human trafficking and other related crimes in the state.
