The Ogun State Police Command has announced that controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, is now officially wanted following allegations that he led a violent attack on government officials performing their duties.
In a statement released on X early Tuesday, spokesperson Omolola Odutola detailed how the declaration came after Portable and his gang assaulted three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—who were carrying out an enforcement operation at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
According to Odutola, the officials initially met an elderly man at Odogwu Bar in the area, who was later identified as Portable’s father. After introducing themselves and requesting the approved building plan, they were informed that Portable was unavailable. Moments later, Portable, armed with a firearm and additional weapons, arrived with a gang of nine thugs to violently confront the unarmed officials.
The enforcement officers sustained injuries during the attack but managed to escape and subsequently reported the incident to the Ota Area Command. The case was then escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department. While nine accomplices have been arrested, Portable fled the scene and remains at large.
Odutola also mentioned that multiple invitations were sent to Portable to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, but he failed to respond, either without justification or legal representation. As a result of his continued evasion, the police have secured a valid court order declaring him wanted.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that might lead to Portable’s arrest and have warned that anyone found assisting or harboring him will face legal consequences.
In a related development, two weeks ago, nine of Portable’s associates were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta on five counts, including felony, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The defendants, accused of attacking officers from the Ota Zonal Planning Office with cutlasses and guns, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
