Peter Obi Pledges Support for Quadri Yusuf Alabi’s Education, Demands Justice for Illegal Incarceration

Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has pledged to sponsor the education of Quadri Yusuf Alabi, a young Nigerian recently freed from unlawful detention.

Obi met with Quadri today and shared details of the encounter via his X (formerly Twitter) account, emphasizing the boy’s deep desire to return to school despite the hardship he faced.

“Despite all he has been through, his only dream is to return to school and complete his education — and I will make sure he gets it,” Obi stated.

He praised the legal team led by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, and also acknowledged the efforts of Dele Farotimi and Hassana Nurudeen, whose continued advocacy played a key role in securing the young man’s release.

Obi called for accountability, insisting that those responsible for Quadri’s illegal detention must face justice. “We cannot afford to allow such acts of criminality to go unpunished,” he said.

The former Anambra governor reiterated his broader vision for a just and equitable Nigeria, stating:

“Together, we will build a Nigeria where education, freedom, rule of law, equity and justice, care and protection of the less privileged will stand as the foundation of our democracy. A new Nigeria is possible.”
