The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared how bad road conditions nearly cost him his life during an evangelism programme in Osun State seven years ago.
Speaking at the church’s annual Special Holy Ghost Service on Friday, Adeboye recalled how the trip took a toll on his health, causing him to collapse in Ilesa. He was unable to continue the journey by road and had to be airlifted to the RCCG camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“Seven years ago, during this same programme, my body completely broke down due to the terrible road conditions,” he told the congregation. “For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed. The devil thought he had finally gotten me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and to return to the camp, we had to charter a helicopter. If I had traveled by road, I wouldn’t have made it.”
The situation worsened when a group of miscreants attempted to prevent the helicopter from taking off, damaging one of its windows in the process.
Despite the ordeal, Adeboye credited his survival to divine intervention, saying he had faith that if he could reach the RCCG camp, he would recover.
“Today, seven years later, I remain grateful to be alive,” he said. “I want you to join me in thanking God—give Him glory, honour, and adoration!”
