Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that the decision on who succeeds him as governor will ultimately be made by the people of the state.
In his bi-monthly newsletter, Makinde acknowledged that his administration has redefined governance through strategic planning and targeted implementations. However, he noted that questions have begun to arise about the future of these efforts and whether the next governor will uphold them.
While affirming that he will introduce his preferred successor to the people, the governor emphasized that the final choice remains in the hands of Oyo residents.
Makinde also reassured citizens that his government still has over two years to deliver on key projects. He highlighted upcoming developments in infrastructure, tourism, agribusiness, and solid minerals, all aimed at expanding the state’s economy.
Referring to the recent visit of Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, to the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Makinde pointed out that Oyo’s agricultural initiatives have gained international recognition. He noted that the state’s data-driven approach to agribusiness has yielded significant results, with President Bio being so impressed that he extended an invitation for further discussions in Sierra Leone.
Additionally, the governor addressed the state’s tractorisation policy, revealing that only 5% implementation was achieved in 2024. He assured that efforts will be made to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and improve communication to ensure better execution of the policy.
