Oyetola Dismisses Allegations of Destabilization, Calls for Respect of Court Rulings

Responding to Governor Adeleke’s recent claims that he intends to destabilize the state, former Osun governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, vehemently dismissed the allegations as baseless. Oyetola asserted that his 15-year record of peaceful conduct and commitment to law-abiding public service speaks for itself. In a statement issued by his media office, Oyetola described himself as a peace-loving individual who respects the judiciary, upholds the rule of law, and honors constituted authority. He emphasized that he has no intention of engaging in any actions that would undermine the peace and tranquility of the state.“For the four years I governed Osun, I maintained a reputation as a man of peace, a staunch respecter of the rule of law, and someone not inclined to violence,” he said. “Had I been given to violence, I would have reacted accordingly in 2022 when I was overtly challenged.”He continued, recalling the events of 2022 when Governor Ademola Adeleke allegedly used extra-judicial means to dismiss democratically elected council officials. “Even then, as the party leader, I never called for violence. Instead, I led our members to court—and just last week, our party secured a favorable ruling on appeal. I then appealed to the security agencies to enforce the court’s judgment. How can anyone accuse me of plotting destabilization? Anyone making such an accusation should have their head properly examined.”Oyetola also took the opportunity to urge his successor to uphold the Appeal Court ruling, condemning any use of “cheap blackmail” as having no place in a lawful society. He reiterated his call for adherence to judicial processes and respect for established legal decisions, stressing that stability and the rule of law must prevail. The minister’s statement comes amid heightened political tensions and underscores his commitment to resolving disputes through lawful and democratic means.
