A factional group of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing has condemned the brutal assault of NYSC member Jennifer Elobor by operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, Udo Ga-Achi.
The group, led by its self-acclaimed President General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, issued a statement on Wednesday demanding the immediate disbandment of the outfit following nationwide outrage over the viral video.
Viral Video Sparks Nationwide Outrage
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed gun-wielding operatives assaulting and stripping Ms. Elobor naked, sparking anger and condemnation from Nigerians across the country.
Okwu described the incident as part of a long-standing pattern of abuses by the security group.
“Before now, there have been several reports of how they violate the rights of people and even engage in trial by ordeal. They are said to have brutalised several innocent people in the state, and engaged in jungle justice for far too long,” he said.
Calls for Disbandment and Fresh Recruitment
The Ohanaeze youth leader called on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to urgently disband Udo Ga-Achi and initiate a new recruitment and training process.
“There should also be a compulsory drug test for anyone to be recruited to avoid a repeat of what Nigerians watched in this video,” Okwu stated.
Demand for Justice and Compensation
The group demanded that the perpetrators be openly tried by the Nigerian Police to ensure accountability and warned against shielding those responsible.
“We demand open trial of the perpetrators by the Nigerian Police; there should be no sacred cows. The victim should also be paid adequate compensation by the Anambra State Government,” Okwu said.
