Actress Speaks on Early Career Challenges
Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about one of the most shocking challenges she faced at the beginning of her acting journey.
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress revealed that she received an extremely inappropriate script that could have negatively shaped her image from the outset.

“I Was Given a Script to Sleep With a Dog”
Nkechi Blessing narrated that despite being a newcomer at the time, she was handed a script in which her character was required to sleep with a dog. According to her, the request was not only outrageous but a risk to her reputation and long-term career.
She explained:
“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. Whatever you start with is what people would associate you with.”
She Says Others Accepted the Role
The actress added that after she rejected the script, other upcoming actresses quickly accepted it.
However, she noted:
“I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today.”
How Rejecting the Script Redirected Her Career Path
Meeting Veteran Filmmaker Emeka Duru
Nkechi Blessing said that immediately after leaving the questionable production set, she crossed paths with veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who showed interest in her talent.
Landing Her First Nollywood Role
Duru later introduced her to a new production, and she eventually made her Nollywood debut in ‘Through The Fire,’ a film by acclaimed filmmaker Emem Isong.
According to her, this move marked a turning point and offered her the opportunity to begin her career on a dignified and professional note.
