NIS flags produced passports to curb collection delays
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced an update to its passport tracking system aimed at improving transparency and reducing delays in passport collection.
The Service said the update follows complaints from applicants after hundreds of produced passports remained uncollected.
New status alerts applicants when passports are ready
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, the NIS said the new feature is tagged “Produced (Passport Produced, Ready For Collection)”.
The update is designed to notify applicants when their passports are ready for pickup, addressing uncertainty around passport issuance timelines.
Clearer tracking for produced and undelivered passports
According to the NIS, the enhancement provides clearer status information, including passports that have been produced and are awaiting physical collection, as well as those produced but yet to be delivered through courier services.
The Service said this will help applicants better track progress and reduce confusion during the collection process.
Service delivery reforms continue
Reaffirming its commitment to improved service delivery, the NIS said the update is part of ongoing efforts to build a more efficient and transparent passport system aligned with global best practices.
