The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of nine worshippers during a night vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ojije community, Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area.
Police said the victims were attending the vigil when armed assailants stormed the church and took them to an unknown location.
DSP Edet Udeme, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical and operational units to the area to intensify search-and-rescue operations.
She reassured residents that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
Security has been strengthened in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks and ensure public safety.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted worshippers and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
