Nigeria’s equity market extended its downward trend on Tuesday, with listed equities losing N215 billion, representing a 0.32% decline in market capitalization.
The market capitalization, which opened at N67.383 trillion, closed at N67.168 trillion, while the All-Share Index (ASI) also fell by 0.32% to 107,781.79 from Monday’s 108,126.97. However, the Year-To-Date (YTD) return improved to 4.72%.
Market breadth remained negative, with 49 stocks declining and only 13 gaining. Honeywell Flour led the losers, dropping 10% to close at N1.25 per share, while Smart Products Nigeria (SMURFIT) led the gainers with a 10% increase, closing at 33 kobo per share.
Despite the losses, trading activity remained strong, with transaction value rising by 9.85%. A total of 363.01 million shares worth N10.12 billion were exchanged in 13,753 deals, compared to the previous session’s 357.76 million shares worth N9.21 billion across 15,914 transactions.
On the activity chart, Access Bank led in volume with 36.85 million shares traded, while Guinness recorded the highest transaction value at N1.10 billion.
