The Nigerian Army has successfully concluded the 2026 Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examinations (LCPPE) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, marking a key milestone in the professional development of junior officers.
Hosted by 81 Division Nigerian Army, the two-week exercise tested candidates across academic, physical, and tactical domains, underscoring the Army’s commitment to leadership and operational excellence.
Lieutenant Colonel Felicia Daniel, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), highlighted the significance of the exercise in a press statement. Major General Peter Malla, Commander TRADOC, described the examination as a defining moment for officers, noting it assessed not only knowledge and competence but also character, discipline, and leadership potential.
Major General Malla praised the candidates for their discipline and professionalism, emphasizing that the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with the Nigerian Army Charter for Promotion Examinations. He also acknowledged the support of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the hospitality of 81 Division Nigerian Army.
In his farewell remarks, General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, described the exercise as one of the most rigorous and essential phases in an officer’s career. He encouraged candidates to view the promotion as a step into the backbone of company-level leadership and to carry the resilience gained in Abeokuta back to their units.
The LCPPE 2026 spanned eight subjects including Tactics, Map Reading, Communications, Administration in the Field, Driving and Maintenance, Skill at Arms, French Language, and Physical Fitness tests, providing a comprehensive evaluation of leadership and tactical proficiency.
