Nigeria and other African nations are seeking investment partnerships in the Caribbean to drive economic growth in key sectors such as agriculture and renewable energy.
The discussions took place in Abuja on Tuesday during the ongoing African-Caribbean Investment Summit, organized by Aquarian Consult, with a focus on St. Kitts and Nevis.
Strengthening Africa-Caribbean Economic Ties
Speaking on the summit’s theme, “Bridging Continents: Africa and the Caribbean: A Partnership for Prosperity,” Aisha Maina, Group Managing Director of Aquarian Consult, emphasized the importance of economic collaboration.
“Real transformation begins when partnerships are solidified. This summit will explore investment opportunities between Nigeria, other African nations, and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Afrexim Bank Advocates Stronger Africa-Caribbean Cooperation
The President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim), Prof. Benedict Oramah, highlighted the underutilization of Africa’s economic potential in global trade, attributing it to a lack of regional collaboration.
Represented by Allen Bongo, Afrexim’s Acting Regional Operations Officer, Oramah stated:
“Africa has 55 countries and 1.5 billion people, yet its share in global trade remains marginal. Our natural resources are exploited, and human capital is exported to stronger economies. This is why collaboration with the Caribbean is essential to boost growth in key sectors.”
The Future of Africa-Caribbean Investments
The summit aims to create long-term investment frameworks that will strengthen trade relations between Africa and the Caribbean, unlocking opportunities in infrastructure, energy, and agribusiness.
As both regions share historical ties and economic potential, experts at the summit agree that strategic partnerships can drive sustainable development and enhance global economic influence.
