The National Examinations Council (NECO) has acquired a high-performance Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner to enhance the efficiency, credibility, and security of its examination process.
In a statement, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, announced that the Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, inaugurated the newly installed Scantron Insight 1500c scanning machine at the ICT Department in Minna on Thursday.
Prof. Wushishi emphasized that the scanner, known for its precision, speed, and high-volume processing capabilities, is a significant step towards improving accuracy and reliability in NECO’s examination system. He highlighted that the Scantron Insight 1500c can process over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour and 250 per minute, ensuring faster and more accurate results processing for millions of candidates globally.
The N500 million investment in this cutting-edge technology allows simultaneous scanning and scoring of OMR sheets, reinforcing NECO’s commitment to leveraging technology for seamless examination administration.
NECO’s Director of ICT, Mr. Goddy Usioboh, affirmed that the scanner aligns with the council’s vision of delivering world-class examination services while maintaining assessment integrity.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tom Harry, Technical Adviser from Scantron Company, USA, trained ICT staff on the scanner’s operations and commended their dedication and diligence during the training session.
This latest technological upgrade marks a significant milestone in NECO’s efforts to streamline exam processing and enhance result accuracy for candidates.
